John W. Whitehead is an attorney and author who has written, debated and practiced widely in the area of constitutional law and human rights. His concern for the persecuted and oppressed led him, in 1982, to establish The Rutherford Institute, a nonprofit civil liberties and human rights organization whose international headquarters are located in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Our topic for discussion today is the issue of the protection of free speech and civil liberties, and we are very pleased to have as our guest John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute. Jan Paynter: John Whitehead is an author and attorney with long experience in areas of human rights and constitutional law, having received a B.A. from the University of Arkansas in 1969 and a J.D. from that same university’s School of Law in 1974. In 1982, he founded the Rutherford Institute, which is located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
